Rajiva Wijesinha is currently Chairman of the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka. While Professor of Languages at Sabaragamuwa University, he was appointed head of the Sri Lanka Peace Secretariat. He was also Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights during the conflict period. Subsequently he became a Member of Parliament and Adviser to the President on Reconciliation. In January 2015 he served briefly as State Minister of Higher Education.
He has published several works of fiction, of literary criticism and of political history, and has edited collections of English Poetry and of Sri Lankan writing in English. Books published in India include Declining Sri Lanka and 20th Century Classics for Cambridge University Press and Bridging Connections and Mirrored Images for the National Book Trust of India. These are respectively collections of short stores and poetry by Sri Lankan writers in English and Sinhala and Tamil.
