Mrinal Talukdar is one of the senior most journalist of the North Eastern region with 26 years of journalism behind him. He is an award winning documentary filmmaker, popular television anchor, and writer of bestseller books besides being a farmer.
He began his career in 1989 in the Sentinel before moving to the North East Times and then to the Assam Tribune. He joined United News of India (UNI) in 1992, rose to become the head of the North East and then the Patna Bureau.
He returned to Assam in 2010 and moved to the television and emerged as the most trusted face of Assam television. He has written 12 books, three of them are best sellers. His most popular book “Mautam”&“1962” are now being translated to both Bengali and English. His latest offering was the 6 part epic modern “Assam History” covering a period between 1945-2000. He is also a documentary film maker and his “Tezpur 1962” won the National award for the best Investigative Film in 2016.
He also runs the Nanda Talukdar Foundation, through which he is making direct intervention at the grass root level. He also teaches in the Gauhati University& IIMs. He is presently consultant of European Union, ACTED and UNICEF.
But he loves to call himself as a farmer as he has a small tea plantation near BiswanathChariali where he intends to retire soon.
