Lakshmi Nandan Bora

Prof (Dr.) Lakshmi Nandan Bora, presently editor of the widely-circulated Assamese literary magazine Gariyoshi is not only a celebrated litterateur in India and a household name in Assam, but also a notable scientist with significant contributions in climatology and agricultural meterology.

  • In The Field of Literature:
    Authored 31 novels, 27 anthologies of short stories,3 travelogues , 6 books on popular science , 2 plays , 1 voluminous autobiography, 2 biographical sketches, 2 translated works, 2 journalistic works in Assamese , and also one text book in English on environment. Total number of books is 77.
  • Literary Awards:
  1. SaraswatiSamman of KK Birla Foundation, the most prestigious in India (2008). (Being the first awardee in NE India)

  1. President, AsomSahitya Sabha (1996-97), the most prestigious socio-literary organisation established in 1917.
  2. Chairman, Assam Pollution Control Board (1997-2003).

  4. Convener of Assamese Advisory of Board of SahityaAkademi and its Executive Member (2008-12).
  • Educational Qualifications:
  1. M.Sc in Pure Physics from ClcuttaUniversity,Kolkata (1954).
  2. Ph.D in Meteorology related to agriculture from Andhra University,Waltair(1977).(being the first doctorate on the subject in NE India)

  1. Former  Professor and Headof the Deprtment of Physics and Agricultural Meteorology in Assam Agricultural University,Jorhat.
  2. Visiting Professor of Climatology , Johannes Gutenberg University,Mainz,Germany (1988)
