Desmond L. Kharmawphlang is a poet and folklorist. He has published collections of poetry and books on theoretical essays on folklore and folkloristics. He has contributed around 70 papers in national and international seminars and his works have been published widely in the country and abroad. A Folk Fellow of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters and Science, he has lectured in the University of Oslo in Norway, Western Oregon and Portland Universities in the U.S., Helsinki University, Finland, Hellenic American University in Athens, Greece, Qinghai Academy in China and the Convention Centre in Honolulu, Hawaii. He has also done sponsored poetry reading programmes in the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and Switzerland. He teaches folkloristics at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong where he is Professor and Head, Department of Cultural and Creative Studies.
