Ankush Saikia was born in Tezpur, Assam in 1975, and grew up in Madison, Wisconsin; Assam; and Shillong, Meghalaya. He worked in journalism and publishing in New Delhi for over a decade, and was shortlisted for the Outlook/Picador-India non-fiction writing award (2005). Saikia is the author of the detective Arjun Arora series (Dead Meat, 2015, and Remember Death, 2016, both published by Penguin Random House India), as well as the crime/thriller novels The Girl from Nongrim Hills (Penguin India, 2013) and Red River, Blue Hills (Westland, 2015). He is currently based in Shillong and Tezpur, and is working on the third Arjun Arora book, set in Nagaland and Manipur, as well as a novel set in the north bank region of Assam. Saikia has also written several longform pieces on the North East for various national publications such as the Hindustan Times, FountainInk, Tehelka, Scroll.in and The Caravan.
